Highland Park appeared inviting, but the short layout rewarded disciplined play and quickly punished overly aggressive decisions. Clay Jackson and Pete Gundolff established the early standard with even-par rounds of 70, but Aaron Mathes eventually separated from the field. Mathes played both nines under par and closed with three net birdies over his final five holes. His 5-under 65 was the round of the day and secured a convincing victory.
